"Cabinet determined that the most
practical, efficient and effective reform would
be to repeal the Municipalities Act 1923 and
transition the operations of the municipalities
into the relevant Government departments." --
excerpt from Government’s Request for Proposal
in the Official Gazette.
- Government has been talking
about “reform,” but their
actions and past comments are
crystal clear -- government
doesn’t want to reform the
corporations -- government wants
to abolish the corporations. And
our voting rights along with it.
- At a time when our country
is facing difficult challenges
like crime, education and rising
budget deficits, Government has
chosen to spend at least
$800,000 on a team of U.S.
lawyers to abolish our local
governments. How much more
wasteful spending can we afford?
- Government is focused on
repealing the progress we’ve
made in our city government and
we do not want government to
take away our right to
participate in city government.
- According to the new Auditor General, government has a six-year record of poor fiscal management, characterised by huge and mounting deficits. They will poorly manage the day-to-day services of the city that we rely on.
